BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad nearly rallied from a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter before falling to visiting Drew University, 10-9, in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening as the Greyhounds played their final home match of the year.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds needed just over a minute to open the scoring as freshman attack Nick Coffaro found the net. However, the Rangers scored the next four goals to lead 4-1 after 15 minutes of action
  • Sophomore attack Ryan Kokoszka began the second quarter with a goal while Drew scored twice for a 6-2 advantage. The Blue & Grey scored in the final minute of the half on a man-up goal from junior midfielder Aaron Judge to cut the score to 6-3 at the intermission
  • The Rangers netted the first goal of the second half to stretch the advantage to four goals at 7-3. The Hounds would run off three straight goals to end the period. Senior attack Trevor Dzama started the run, and he would set up goals by Kokoszka and junior midfielder Dan Kelly to get Moravian within one at 7-6 after 45 minutes of play
  • Drew restored its three-goal lead with two markers to start the fourth quarter. Kelly found the net with just over 10 minutes to play, but the Rangers responded again. Kelly cut the deficit to 10-8 with 5:12 to go, and the Greyhounds were within one with 1:57 remaining when Kokoszka hit the net off a feed from Dzama, which was his school record 125th career assist. Moravian was unable to get the equalizer in the remaining time despite getting another shot on goal

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six players record a point with Kokoszka and Kelly each netting hat tricks
  • Dzama had a goal and five assists to give him 125 career assists, breaking Clint Quedenfeld's mark set in 2005, and Dzama is now just three points shy of the Greyhounds' all-time scoring record
  • Coffaro contributed a goal, an assists and two ground balls while Judge had a goal and three ground balls
  • Junior midfielder Kyle Weiss had an assists to go with three ground balls while senior long stick midfielder Matt Baer, junior midfielder Aden Moskovitz and sophomore midfielder Frank Britch all scooped up three ground balls
  • Junior face-off specialist Gannon Mesko was 12-for-20 on face-offs to go with four ground balls
  • Freshman goalie Liam Kelly recorded 13 saves in the game to go with a pair of ground balls
  • The Hounds had a 31-24 edge in ground balls while both squads took 41 shots. The Blue & Grey was also 17-for-18 on clearing attempts and won 12-of-20 face-offs
