Greyhounds, Aggies Play to 1-1 Draw

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team played to a 1-1, double-overtime draw at Delaware Valley College in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

It is the second straight tie for the Greyhounds, now 3-2-2 on the season, who got on the scoreboard first after being held scoreless in their last two matches. Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute when sophomore midfielder Brett Harder took a free kick play from about 28 yards out. Harder put the kick right to freshman midfielder Saul Marcial in the box, and he scored his third goal of the season from eight yards out just inside the far post.

The Aggies would knot the score in the 80th minute when Alec Scarano found the back of the net.

With about three minutes left in the first overtime, Harder took a shot towards the left post on the short side from about 12 yards out, but Delaware Valley keeper Chase Clement made a diving save to keep the game tied. The Aggies had one scoring opportunity in each overtime session but were unable to find the net either.

Besides the final score, the match was balanced in shots with Delaware Valley having a 23-22 edge. Both squads attempted seven shots in the first half and another 11 in the second half. Moravian got off three shots in the first overtime to two for the Aggies while Delaware Valley managed three shots in the final ten minutes to one for the Greyhounds. Delaware Valley also had an 8-6 edge in corner kicks including the only one in the extra 20 minutes of action.

Sophomore goalie Brian Boland made seven saves in goal for Moravian while Clement had nine stops for the Aggies.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 21 when they host Wesley (Del.) College in a non-conference match on the HUB Quad beginning at 1:00 p.m. as part of Moravian's Family Day events.
