Men’s Soccer Drops Landmark Conference Match to Drew, 2-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College men's soccer team fell to Drew University 2-0 on Sunday on the HUB Quad in Landmark Conference action.

The Rangers (8-3-2) used a tally in each half and a shutout in goal to improve to 1-1-1 in the conference, while the Greyhounds (6-5-2) fell to 0-3.

"We played very well in the last 10 minutes of the first half," head coach Todd Ervin said. "We created some chances and played the game plan the way it was supposed to look like. We just needed to do that for the entire game. We came out in the second half and didn't perform to the standards we expect."

The Rangers received a fortuitous bounce on the game's opening score in the 6th minute as a corner kick bounced off a Greyhound defender and trickled over the goal line. Drew then added an insurance goal in the 79th off a direct free kick that was rocketed into the side netting from just outside the 18-yard box.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Boland remained stout in goal, stopping nine shots and helping turn away 13 Ranger corner kicks. Drew took 21 shots in the contest.

Junior midfielder Chris Gomez, sophomore midfielder Seth Reynolds and freshman forward Saul Marcial all took shots on goal for the Greyhounds, prompting the Drew goalkeeper to make a trio of nice saves.

Moravian returns to the HUB Quad on Wednesday, Oct. 16 with a non-conference match against Valley Forge Christian College at 3:30 p.m. The Greyhounds seek their first Landmark victory on Saturday, Oct. 19 when Juniata College comes to Bethlehem for a 3:30 p.m. match.

"We have a very close-knit group of guys, which is great," Ervin said. "They are able to rebound and keep their focus after a loss very well. From a team aspect, we really have that camaraderie that will help us after days like this. We just have to start putting it together on the field."
