Algor Picked for Landmark All-Conference First Team

TOWSON, Md. – Senior forward Jeffrey Algor of the Moravian College men's soccer team has been selected to the Landmark All-Conference First Team in the league's 2013 awards released on Wednesday afternoon.

Algor, an All-Landmark Second Team selection as a junior defender in 2012, returned to the striker position in style this season for the Greyhounds (7-9-2). The senior led the conference in scoring with 13 goals and two assists, with five of those tallies going down as game-winners.

"Congratulations to Jeff on being selected to the Landmark All-Conference First Team," said head coach Todd Ervin said of his team captain. "His perseverance throughout the season and the strong play of his teammates positioned Jeff extremely well to receive this award, and I am very happy for him."

Algor's First Team selection was the men's soccer program's first since the advent of the Landmark Conference in 2007. The last time a Greyhound won First Team All-Conference honors was in 2003, when Tim Shannon won an All-MAC Commonwealth League First Team award.

Algor had four multi-goal games this season, including the program's first hat-trick in eight years in the Greyhounds' season-opening 5-2 win at Baptist Bible College. The senior also added double-dips against Immaculata University, Bryn Athyn College and Valley Forge Christian College.

While Algor has proved to be an incredible individual talent, Ervin says the award is a testament to the men's soccer program heading in the right direction.

"Any time a member of our squad comes away with an All-Conference selection, it's not only a reflection on the player, but the team as a whole," the fifth-year head coach said. "I am sure this will be just a small peek of what's to come in future seasons. Once again, congratulations to Jeff."

Algor's 13 goals this season are tied for ninth in the Moravian record books for tallies in a single season. His 28 points are tied for 10th all-time in program history for a single season. Algor will graduate 10th on the all-time career points list with 47.
