Early Goals Doom Men’s Soccer in 3-0 Loss at Merchant Marine

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Moravian College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to The United States Merchant Marine Academy in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Mariners (6-5-1, 3-1 Landmark) scored all three goals in the game's opening 26 minutes, and the Greyhounds (7-8-2, 0-6) were unable to respond with a goal of their own.

Moravian did, however, pick up the intensity in the second half, outshooting Merchant Marine 6-5 after halftime. Senior forward Jeffrey Algor led that attack; taking three shots and forcing a USMMA save in the 65th minute.

Sophomore midfielder David Tate also got on the offensive in the second as he had a header blocked by a Mariner inside the 18-yard box. Midfielder Brett Harder and defenders Ian Larimer and Justin Dilts also put shots on goal in the loss.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Boland made three saves on Saturday.

The Greyhounds have one game remaining in the 2013 season and will look for a win in that final game to finish the year at .500. Moravian hosts Goucher College in the finale on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
