SCRANTON, Pa. – The Moravian College men's soccer team dropped a Landmark Conference contest at The University of Scranton, 3-1, on Tuesday afternoon despite a historic performance from sophomore goalkeeper Brian Boland.

Boland finished with 14 saves in the match, a career-high and the third highest single-game total in school history. It was the most saves in a match since Mike Brand '12, a former teammate of Boland's, recorded 15 against Scranton on the same field in 2011.

Senior forward Jeffrey Algor gave his keeper an early lead with his Landmark-leading 12th goal of the season in the 13th minute.

Algor took matters into his own hands early in the first half, dribbling into an open space in the midfield and taking a quick look at the opposing goal. The senior striker caught the Royals' goalkeeper off guard by launching a 40-yard shot, which found the back of the net for the 1-0 Greyhound lead.

The Royals (9-2-3, 2-2) responded with an equalizer in the 19th minute and the two clubs went into halftime with the score tied at 1-1.

Scranton scored the game-winner and the insurance goal in the 88th and 90th minutes, despite Boland's best efforts to send the game to overtime. The sophomore made seven saves in each half while facing 31 shots and nine Royal corner kicks. The last two Scranton shots, however, made the difference and the Greyhounds fell to 7-7-2 on the season with an 0-5 mark in the conference.

Scranton's second and third goals came with only 10 Greyhounds on the field after junior defender Lewis Cooper was issued a second yellow card and ejected from the contest in the 82nd minute.

Algor led the Moravian offense right until the final horn, taking a shot on goal in the 90th minute forcing a save from the Scranton keeper. Algor took a team-high five shots on Tuesday. Freshman forward Saul Marcial put his only shot of the day on target in the setback.

Two Landmark Conference contests remain for the Greyhounds in the 2013 regular season with matches at The United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3:30 p.m. and against Goucher College on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 3:30 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
