BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team used a balanced attack that saw all 17 players play at least seven minutes and 16 of them tally points as the Greyhounds defeated Goucher College, 77-29, in a Landmark Conference contest in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening.
The Hounds improve to 13-5 overall and 3-4 after the first half of the Landmark Conference season. The Blue and Grey had three players in double figures led by sophomore forward Nadine Ewald, who had 12 points, two rebounds and a pair of steals. Graduate student forward Camille McPherson (and sophomore guard Maddie Capuano both tossed in 10 points with McPherson adding a team-high six assists and five rebounds and Capuano dishing out three assists and making a pair of steals.
Sophomore guard Karlie Brogan contributed eight points and two assists while sophomore guard Brooke Santy tossed in five points. Seniors forward Ciara Stewart and guard Taylor Freeman, junior forward Ariana Caiati and freshman guard Sarah Donati all had four points with Caiati and Stewart each blocking two shots and Caiati adding four rebounds. Senior forward Trista Cunningham had three points and three rebounds while sophomore forward Christine Neu had three points and five boards.
Senior forward Jen Cella contributed four rebounds and two points while freshman guard Julia Sirotnak had three rebounds, two points and a pair of assists. Junior guard Emily Walls pulled down five boards to go with two points while freshman guard Jennifer McClave had three assists and two points. Junior guard Tyis Mullen also contributed two points while freshman forward Jordan Beneducci contributed four rebounds and three steals in the victory.
Moravian connected on 53 percent of its field goal attempts, going 34-of-64 from the floor, and the Greyhounds had a 42-34 edge on the boards while forcing 18 turnovers.
Brogan and McPherson both scored in the opening minute of the game to give the Blue and Grey a 4-0 lead, and McPherson pushed the advantage to double figures at 16-6 with a lay-up at the 4:24 mark of the first quarter. Sirotnak beat the buzzer at the end of the quarter as Moravian led 23-8 after 10 minutes of action.
The Hounds continued to extend the lead and headed to the locker room with a 37-10 advantage after a jumper by Santy in the final minute of the half. The Blue and Grey offense would net 30 points in the third quarter to lead 67-26 after 30 minutes of action.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, January 27 in a Landmark Conference game at Susquehanna University beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove.
