Women's Soccer Hosts Wilkes in Season Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's soccer team plays host to Wilkes University this Saturday, September 1st at 4 p.m. to start the 2012 fall season. The Greyhounds are 7-4-1 versus the Colonels.

Third-year head coach Brienne Smith hopes to lead Moravian to its sixth straight postseason appearance with four returning starters and six returning letterwinners back for the 2012 season. Smith also brought in 16 newcomers for the 2012 squad.

Senior defender Eileen Black (Branchburg, N.J./Sommerville) and sophomore midfielder Kirsten Schall (Tinton Falls, N.J./St. Rose) will lead the Greyhounds after being named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team last fall. Black had a team-high four goals in 2011 while Schall had one assists in 11 matches after missing time due to an injury.

Junior goalie Genevieve Chaleff (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) started 13 games while making 67 saves to go with a 2.06 goals against average. Senior goalie Tori Korona (Easton, Pa./Easton) played in eight games while starting six. Korona made 20 saves to go with her 2.01 goals against average. Both goalkeepers recorded one shutout.

Junior midfielder Taylor DiSora (Easton, Pa./Easton) tallied one goal and one assist while junior forward Caroline Clark (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Lawrence Woodmere Academy) played in 16 of 19 games for the Greyhounds.

"I'm excited for the return of our core players from last year along with the addition of an outstanding group of newcomers that will make an immediate impact on the Greyhounds soccer program," said coach Smith.

After Saturday's contest, the Greyhounds are on the pitch again Sunday, September 2nd versus Penn State-Altoona. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
