Moravian Plays to 1-1 Draw Against Mt. St. Mary

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw versus Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) College on Wednesday afternoon.

This is the first time in the program's history, the women's soccer team played in three straight double overtime games. The only other time the Hounds played in three straight overtime games was over the span of the 2009-2010 season. They fell to The Catholic University of America (11/1/09), Stevenson University (11/11/09) and tied Lebanon Valley College (9/1/10).

Freshman defender Taylor Blake had a shot to put the Greyhounds on top in the early minutes of the game, but her shot hit the top of the post from 15 yards out. The Knights would break the tie in the 39th minute when sophomore defender Kim Castro netted a goal off a pass from freshman defender Melissa Maini. Mt. St. Mary would end up taking that 1-0 lead into the locker room.

Senior defender Eileen Black had a chance to tie the game after heading a cross from sophomore midfielder Kirsten Schall just over the goal in the 59th minute. Moravian would wait until the final minutes to tie up the contest at one. Schall crossed a pass to freshman forward Melissa Pavia, who put it in the back of the net with a minute and 17 seconds left in the match.

Neither team had the advantage in the first or second overtime as both teams would find the contest at 1-1.

Junior goalkeeper Genevieve Chaleff started the game for the Greyhounds, and made three saves while allowing one goal in 52 minutes of work. Senior goalie Tori Korona played the rest of the contest for the Hounds and recorded six saves in 58 minutes of work. Their counterpart junior Jacquelyn Mancini tallied one save while allowing one goal in the game.

The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday, September 29th as they travel to Landmark Conference foe Drew University. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
