HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Juniata College women's soccer team scored in the 99th minute to break a 2-2 tie to earn a 3-2 Landmark Conference win over visiting Moravian College Saturday.
The Greyhounds, now 6-5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference action, would have the first chance to score in the first half with junior forward Caroline Clark had a shot on goal that was saved by Juniata freshman goalie Kristin Twardowski in the 11th minute. The Eagles, who are now 7-4-1 overall and 1-1 in Landmark Conference play, nearly scored in 31s minute when Paula Pryor took a shot that was saved by Moravian senior goal Tori Korona.
Moravian would break through with the first goal of the contest in the 38th minute when sophomore midfielder Kirsten Schall chipped the ball over Twardowkski's head on a one-on-one play for her team leading fifth goal of the season.
Juniata had two shots in the final five minutes of the first half that Korona saved. The Eagles would finally get a ball past Korona and tie the match on a penalty kick from junior midfielder Alicia Snyder in the 55th minute. Less than two minutes later, the Eagles moved in front, 2-1, on a goal from Pryor off of a through pass from freshman forward/midfielder Sarah Rhodes.
The Greyhounds tied the contest again at 2-2 in the 71st minute when Clark took a crossing pass from Schall and netted her second goal of the season. Clark had a chance to Moravian back in front less than a minute later but Twardowski made the stop. Schall also had another shot on goal with 1:32 left for the Greyhounds but again Twardowski stopped the shot.
Juniata's sophomore defender/midfielder Katelyn Szczur would get a shot on Korona in the 87th minute while junior defender Jenna Rodrigue had two shots in the final 1:05 with Korona making all three stops to force overtime.
Moravian would dominate the overtime session with four shots on goal with two by Schall in a span of 31 seconds but Twardowski made all four saves. The Eagles would end the game on a goal by junior midfielder Rose Lucidi off of a crossing pass from Pryor with 1:48 left in the first overtime.
The Greyhounds had a 22-13 advantage in shots with Schall taking nine shots in the match while Juniata held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Korona made six saves in the match for the Greyhounds while Twardowski made 13 saves.
Moravian will be back on the pitch on Wednesday, October 10th when the squad hosts Haverford College in a non-conference match on the HUB Quad starting at 4:00 p.m.
