BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team earned the second seed in the 2012 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament, and will play third seed Drew University on Saturday, November 3rd at 2:00 p.m. for a semifinal match on Fitzpatrick Field at top seed The University of Scranton.
The match was originally scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on October 31st but was moved last Sunday evening to Thursday, November 1st due to the recent storm. Wednesday morning, the Landmark Conference further altered the postseason schedule based on the effects of the storm. The entire tournament will now be played at Scranton on Saturday and Sunday, November 3rd and 4th.
The Greyhounds are 10-7-1 overall with a 4-2 mark in conference play. This is Moravian's tenth postseason appearance, and its sixth consecutive berth. The Rangers 9-7-2 and 3-1-2 in conference play this season. Moravian defeated Drew, 2-0, on September 29th in the regular season matchup between the schools.
Saturday's other semifinal match puts fourth seed The Catholic University of America at Scranton at 11:00 a.m. The winners will meet on Sunday, November 4th at 1:00 p.m. at Scranton's Fitzpatrick Field for the conference championship and an automatic berth to the 2012 NCAA Division III Tournament. Greyhounds' third-year head coach Brienne Smith has led the Moravian three straight postseason berths in her first three campaigns at Moravian.
Sophomore midfielder Kirsten Schall (Tinton Falls, N.J./Saint Rose HS) leads the Greyhounds in scoring with eight goals including a pair of game winning tallies and seven assists for 23 points, and she has taken 85 of the team's 92 corner kicks this season. Junior forward Caroline Clark (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Lawrence Woodmere Academy) has contributed five goals and two assists for 12 points, and she has two game-winning goals this fall.
Freshman midfielder Catherine Lamplugh (Cinnaminson, N.J/Holy Cross HS) has netted four goals for eight points in her debut season for the Greyhounds while senior defender Eileen Black (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville HS) and freshman forward Melissa Pavia (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan HS) each have three goals and two assists for eight points with Black netting a pair of game-winning goals. Junior midfielder Taylor DiSora (Easton, Pa./Easton HS) has added a goal and an assist for Moravian this fall.
Freshmen defender/midfielder Taylor Blake (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth HS), midfielder Brittany Nicoline (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West HS) and forward Carissa Mehaffey (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon County HS) and junior midfielder/forward Sarah LaFerrara (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park HS) each have scored one goal this season while junior midfielder Samantha Dunn (Upper Black Eddy, Pa./Palisades HS) has added one assist for the Greyhounds. Sophomore defender Kaylan Bruzzone (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional HS) and freshman defender Marlene Lopes (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan HS) have both started all 18 matches this season while freshman midfielder Micaela Kwotchka (Monroe, Conn./Academy of Our Lady of Mercy Lauralton Hall) has played in 16 matches.
The Greyhounds have had two players split time in goal this fall. Senior Tori Korona (Easton, Pa./Easton HS) has a 1.04 goals-against average to go with a 3-3-1 record, two shutouts and 37 saves in 604 minutes of action while junior Genevieve Chaleff (Cranford, N.J/Cranford HS) has a 1.43 goals-against average, a 7-4 record, three shutouts and 57 saves in 1074 minutes of action. The duo has also combined on a shutout this season for Moravian.
The Rangers, under the direction of Christa Racine, have won three straight matches including a 1-0 win over Catholic this past Saturday to wrap-up the third seed in the tournament. Drew will be making its second appearance in the Landmark Conference Tournament in three years.
Freshman forward/midfielder Emma Campbell leads the Rangers with 15 goals and four assists for 34 points, and she has needed five game-winning goals. Junior midfielder Katie O'Keefe has contributed seven goals including three game winners and five assists for 19 points while junior forward Caroline Kuras has added four goals and four assists for 12 points.
Senior midfielder/forward Courtney Carnevale has three goals and three assists for nine points this fall for Drew while freshman midfielder Mel Santos has added four goals for eight points. Junior midfielder Liz Loiodice also six points on a pair of goals and two assists while senior defender Michelle Malone has netted two goals this season.
Senior Kim Jaikissoon has started 17 of 18 matches in goal for the Rangers, and she has a 1.43 goals-against average to go with an 8-7-2 record, four shutouts and 79 saves in 1,514 minutes of action.
