Schall Leads Comeback as Moravian Defeats Goucher, 2-1

TOWSON, Md. – The Moravian College women's soccer team defeated Landmark Conference foe Goucher College, 2-1, Saturday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Kirsten Schall scored two goals in the second half to complete the comeback for the Greyhounds.

With the win, Moravian has clinched a playoff spot in the Landmark Conference postseason tournament.

The first half was a battle for both teams as Moravian held a slight edge in the shots at 6-4 and the corner kicks at 2-0. Schall had a chance to put the Greyhounds up 1-0 in the early going, but freshma goalie Lexi Rudolph for the Gophers made the tough save in the 14th minute. Goucher would strike first in the 35 minutes when sophomore midfielders Staci Tomasetti sent the pass to Lindsey Puopolo, who had a one-on-one with the goalie and slid it right underneath for the score. The Gophers would take the 1-0 advantage in halftime.

The second half was a different story for Moravian as they scored two goals to complete the comeback and win the game. Schall started the comeback in the 59th minute when she beat the defender with a quick change of direction, and shot to the far post for the score. 11 minutes later, Schall complete the comeback when she hit the loose ball from the middle of the box to net her second goal of the game. Junior midfielder Caroline Clark assisted on the play.

Junior goalie Genevieve Chaleff tallied four saves in the victory while her counterpart, Rudolph had six saves in the loss.

Moravian outshot the Goucher, 14-9, and held the corner kick advantage at 2-0.

The Greyhounds return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 23rd as they travel to local rival Muhlenberg College. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
