BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Four Moravian College student-athletes, seniors Eileen Black, Micah Leonard and Jesse Krasley and sophomore Alexis Wright were honored with awards at the 2013 Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Annual Awards luncheon at Starters Pub Tuesday.
The LVAIAW is made up of seven schools, Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Moravian and Muhlenberg College. For more information on the LVAIAW, visit www.lvaiaw.org.
Black was the LVAIAW Women's Soccer Most Outstanding Athlete. She helped Moravian to a 10-9-2 while playing in the Landmark Conference Championship match, and reaching the ECAC Division III South Quarterfinals. She earned a number of postseason awards last fall including be named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America 2012 Women's College Division Scholar All-East Region Third Team, the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team, Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year and being named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team and Fall All-Academic Team. Black had 14 goals and five assists for 33 career points while playing in 77 career matches including four goals and two assists as a senior.
Leonard was honored as the LVAIAW Outstanding Field Athlete in track & field and was also Moravian's LVAIAW Outstanding Athlete for the school. During the indoor season, she earned All-America honors for the fifth time in her career as she placed fifth in the triple jump on the second day of competition at the 2013 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships hosted by North Central (Ill.) College. She was also named the Landmark Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the year for the third straight season. This past weekend, Leonard helped Moravian win its sixth straight Landmark Conference Outdoor Championship, and she was the Field Athlete of the year again. Leonard won the long jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 5.69 meters (18 feet, eight inches), a career best that moved her to tenth place on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list that will have the top 22 individuals and top 16 relay teams at the end of the season in each event heading to the NCAA Division III National Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. On Sunday, Leonard won the triple jump for the fourth straight year with an ECAC qualifying, Moravian and Landmark Conference record distance of 12.14 meters (39 feet, ten inches), a distance that moves her to third on the TFRRS list. Leonard was also the runner-up in the high jump at 1.52 meters (four feet, 11 ¾ inches).
Krasley was named the LVAIAW Women's Volleyball Most Outstanding Athlete for the second straight year. Krasley was honored as the 2012 Landmark Conference Specialist of the Year, and she earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference First Team and the ECAC Division III South All-Star Team. Krasley was also named an American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Honorable Mention All-American and to the AVCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors the last two falls. Krasley owns every Moravian school record in digs including a career total of 2,502. This season, Krasley tallied a team-high 754 digs while ranking second on the team with 138 assists and 43 service aces. The Greyhounds broke the school record with 29 wins and an overall mark of 29-9 this past fall. Moravian reached the semifinals of both the 2012 Landmark Conference and ECAC Division III South Tournaments.
Wright earned the LVAIAW Women's Basketball Most Outstanding Athlete award. Wright was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-America, the Women's DIII News Honorable Mention All-America, the Landmark All-Conference First Team, the D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, the ECAC Division III South All-Star First Team and the Pete Nevins Lehigh Valley Small College Women's Basketball Player of the Year honors this past winter. She led the Greyhounds with averages of 16.5 points and 11.2 rebounds per game this past winter, the latter a school record. Wright completed her sophomore season with 803 career points, and she is already 15th in school history with 551 career rebounds. Wright led Moravian with 66 blocked shots this season to increase her career total to 115 blocked shots, and she added 55 steals and 42 assists. Wright made 40.8 percent (187 of 458) field goal attempts this winter. The Greyhounds completed the 2012-13 season with a 22-7 record. Moravian reached the postseason for the 13th straight year with a spot in the Landmark Conference Tournament, and the Greyhounds also participated in the ECAC South Tournament for the 14th time, reaching the championship game for the second consecutive season.
