TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College men's cross country team, the two-time defending Landmark Conference champions, has been selected as the runner-up in the 2013 Landmark Conference preseason coaches' poll.
Susquehanna University received 67 points and six first-place votes while the Greyhounds had 53 points and the final two first place votes. Juniata College was selected third in the poll with 39 points.
"We know what to expect from a few of our men's runners, in particular with juniors Dillon Farrell and Alec Duncan," stated third-year Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "Dillon is in the best shape of his life, and Alec is coming into the season faster than he did 12 months ago, so I expect both to pick up from where they left off this spring. After those two we have a lot of unknowns. Sophomore Jeremy Rigotti just put in the best three months of training of his life and has the potential to be one of the most improved runners I've coached.
"We have some promising new freshmen who have a lot of talent and potential, but the success this year will depend on how quickly our freshmen can adapt to the 8k distance. Susquehanna is the clear favorite going into the season, but I like the potential of the group and what they've shown thus far in practice," Baumann continued.
The Greyhounds have six letterwinners back for the 2013 season including Farrell, the 2012 Landmark Runner of the Year, and a total of 11 runners on the roster.
Moravian opens the season at the Lehigh University Invitational on Saturday, August 31 starting at 10:00 a.m.
