Farrell Places Third at Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Dillon Farrell hit the ground running to begin the 2013 Moravian College men's cross country season.

Farrell finished in third place with a 6K time of 19:05.90 on Saturday morning at the Lehigh University Invitational. The junior's finish came under hot and humid conditions at the Goodman Campus course, but that did not damper his deservedly high expectations for a defending Landmark Conference champion.

"Dillon wanted to run faster," his Head Coach, Jesse Baumann, said. "On a warm and muggy day, he did well. It was pretty satisfying considering a couple hiccups. He would say the same thing because he expects a lot from himself. Overall, we're happy with the performance."

Freshman Cory Taggert had a solid debut for Moravian, finishing with a 20:54.79 in his Moravian debut. The rookie made up about 20 seconds in his final kilometer, a sign that he left a little too much energy in the tank. These are the things that make up the learning curve for Baumann's young squad.

"It was a good learning experience," Baumann said. "It was also a wakeup call for what kind of shape we need to be in at these meets. There were some bumps in the road for some of our newcomers, but what's important is that they gained good experience."

Junior Alec Duncan (20:57.33) and sophomore Jeremy Rigotti (21:04.18) also placed in the top 100 for the Greyhounds at Lehigh.

The 2013 season continues when Moravian enters the Landmark Conference Preview at the Catholic University of America on Saturday, September 7 at 11 a.m.
