Schaffer, Rockwell Win Events at Coach P Open

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior Abby Schaffer won the pole vault while senior Cadee Rockwell captured the 5,000-meter run to lead the Moravian College women's outdoor track & field team at the non-scoring Coach P Open Saturday at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.

Schaffer set the meet record in the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of four meeters (13 feet, 1 1/2 inches). It marked the first time this outdoor season that Schaffer has cleared four meters and the mark moved her to second on the 2012 Track & Field Results Reporting System list to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Those women ranked in the top 22 for individuals and top 16 for relays at the end of the season will compete at the national meet.

Rockwell captured the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:49.23, and she also ran a leg on one of Moravian's 4x400-meter relay teams Saturday.

The Greyhounds "A" 4x400-meter relay squad of senior Lisa Williamson and freshman Morgan Redmond, Brielle Sutter and Brianna Wright finished fourth with an ECAC qualifying and school record time of 3:58.31. Redmond was also fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying mark of 1:05.65, and she was tenth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter intermediate hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 15.80 seconds.

Williamson took eighth in the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying mark of 26.41 seconds, and she was tenth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash in 13.03 seconds. Senior Kristina Ruggiero placed seventh in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:59.14.

In the field events, junior Micah Leonard was the runner-up in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 11.28 meters (37 feet, 1/4 inch), which would be 20th on the TFRRS list but Leonard already has the 14th spot on the list.  Leonard also finished fifth in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 5.25 meters (17 feet, 2 3/4 inches).

Freshman Hailey Kester palced ninth in the triple jump at 10.26 meters (33 feet, eight inches), and she took sixth in the pole vault at an ECAC qualifying height of 3.40 meters (11 feet, 1 3/4 inches), which is tied for 26th on the TFRRS list.  Freshman Dana Fineman was ninth in the pole vault at 3.10 meters (ten feet, two inches) while freshman Alexis Wright placed tenth in the high jump at 1.46 meters (four feet, 9 1/2 inches).

Moravian will return to action when the squad hosts the Greyhound Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21 at Timothy Breidegam Track & Rocco Calvo Field.
