40 Moravian Student-Athletes Named to 2011 Spring Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll

MADISON, N.J. --- The Landmark Conference has recognized 294 student-athletes including 40 from Moravian College by selecting them for the 2011 Spring Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll. The honorees were selected from all eight Landmark Conference institutions.

The Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognizes all spring student athletes of sophomore standing or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The student-athletes must complete the spring season in good standing with their team. All eight Landmark Conference institutions placed at least 23 athletes on the Academic Honor Roll and all eight spring Landmark sports were represented on the team. Due to administrative issues one institution was not represented, but eligible students will be honored in the future.

The Landmark Spring All-Academic Team, which features two male and two female student-athletes from each Landmark institution will be released soon. In addition a Senior Scholar Athlete will be chosen for each Landmark sport.

Moravian had student-athletes selected from all six of its spring teams that compete in the conference with the women's track and field team leading the way with 13 honorees. The men's track & field program had ten student-athletes earn Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll accolades while the baseball squad had seven student-athletes honored. The softball team had six honorees while both the men's and women's tennis teams each had two student-athletes make the honor roll as well.

Leading the honorees for the women's track and field team were juniors Cadee Rockwell (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS), Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove HS) and Abigail Schaffer (Easton, PA/Easton HS), who all led the Greyhounds to their fourth straight Landmark Conference. Schaffer won the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship in the pole vault with an NCAA meet record this past May for her second national title of the year.

Also making the Honor Roll were seniors Molly DuVall (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township HS), Mallory Goggins (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Friends HS), Kaleen Holden (Scranton, PA/Bishop Hannan HS), Mary King (Paramus, NJ/Paramus HS) and Shannon McEvoy (Lafayette, NJ/High Point Regional HS), juniors Lauren Molchan (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS), Brittany Moses (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS), and Lisa Williamson (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) and sophomores Emma Pacheco (Flourtown, PA/Mount Saint Joseph Academy) and Samantha Sheridan (Glassboro, NJ/Pitman HS).

Junior Gary Zack (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood HS) leads the honorees for the Men's Track and Field team after winning the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships in the javelin throw last May helping Moravian to its fourth straight Landmark Conference title. Junior Nicco Dalpiaz (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy HS) won a Landmark Conference title in the pole vault while junior Timothy Layng (Canton, PA/Canton HS) was the runner up in the pole vault.

Also making the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll were seniors Jesse Miller (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg HS) and Jacob Tazik (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing HS),juniors Jordan Barton (Williamsport, PA/Montoursville HS), Matthew Lutcza (Dingman's Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley HS) and Zach Rivenbank (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) and sophomores Jake Donchez (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) and Travis King (Wilmington, DE/Concord HS).

Seniors Jonathan Baltz (Easton, PA/Easton HS), Matthew Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), Jake Schweitzer (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) and Mike Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS)were all named to the 2011 Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll as the baseball team ended the 2011 season with a school record for wins at 31 going 31-9 overall and hosting the Landmark Conference Tournament for a second straight year.

Joining the senior baseball players on the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll were juniors and Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Year Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS), Austin Rock (Arlington, VA/Flour Bluff HS) and David Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS).

The softball team honorees were led by sophomore Shannen Mohr (Slatington, PA/Parkland HS), who was named to the 2011 Landmark Conference Softball Co-Player of the Year and a Second Team Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-American. The softball team completed the year with a 37-9 overall record, a fourth consecutive Landmark Conference Championship and a berth in the 2010 NCAA Division III Tournament, the program's 13th appearance in the last 14 years.

Also making the honor roll from the softball team were seniors Amanda Paulus (Easton, PA/Easton HS), who was on the Landmark All-Conference First Team, Maura Agnew (Doylestown, PA/Lansdale Catholic HS) and Elizabeth Python (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman HS), the 2011 Landmark Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year and All-Conference First Team selection, sophomore Olivia Evanko (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) and sophomore Alyssa Fegely (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights HS).

The honorees for the women's tennis team were seniors Kerry McKinley (Sparta, NU/Pope John XXIII HS) and Elizabeth Endy (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) with McKinley earning All-Conference First Team Honors in singles. The women's tennis team completed its season with a 10-7 record and captured the Landmark Conference Championship and a berth in the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

Junior Nick Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua HS) and sophomore Brad Kutcha (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park HS) were named to the Spring Academic Honor Roll from the men's tennis team. Yelito was also named to the 2011 Landmark All-Conference First Team in doubles, and the men's tennis team posted an 8-6 record, and competed in the Landmark Conference Tournament for the fourth straight year.
