Five Baseball Players are Ranked in the Latest NCAA DIII Statistics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Five Moravian College baseball players are ranked in the latest NCAA Division III statistics released Tuesday.

Senior shortstop Dave Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) is ranked fifth in the nation in on-base percentage at .559, seventh with 52 runs scored, tenth with 1.37 runs per game, 13th in batting average at .452, 27th in toughest to strikeout at 27 at-bats per strikeout, 39th in hit by pitches with 13 and 39th in hits with 61. Zubia also has 13 doubles and 35 RBIs this spring.

Senior pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) is ranked 12th in the country with seven complete games, 12th in walks allowed per nine at 0.79 and 42nd in wins with seven. On the season, Close is 7-1 with a 2.37 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 57 innings.

Senior pitcher Kyle Longernecker (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) ranks seventh in Division III with 0.67 walks allowed per nine innings, 47th in hits allowed per nine innings at 6.7 and 48th with a 1.79 ERA. This spring, Longernecker is 3-3 with a 1.79 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 40.1 innings pitched.

Freshman pitcher Chris Lansberry (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) ranks 42nd in the country with seven victories. He is currently 7-1 with a 3.15 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched.

Sophomore pitcher Thomas Mariano (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton) is ranked 36th in the nation with 1.19 walks allowed per nine innings. On the season, Mariano is 5-2 with a 3.91 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 53 innings.

As a team the Greyhounds in 13 different statistical categories in NCAA Division III. They rank sixth in hits (467), sixth in doubles (96), ninth in runs (317), 11th in doubles per game (2.4), 12th in batting average (.340), 14th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.65), 15th in walks allowed per nine innings (2.54), 28th in stolen bases (88), 30th in runs per game (7.9), 30th in hit by pitches (56), 33rd in slugging percentage (.456) and 35th in stolen bases per game (2.2).

Moravian returns to action on Saturday, May 5th as they open up the Landmark Conference Tournament versus Drew University. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. at Gillispie Field.
