Moravian Defeats Haverford, 10-3

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College baseball team defeated Haverford College, 10-3, Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference contest. Senior pitcher Kevin O'Keefe led the way on the mound and at the plate. O'Keefe earned the win after going seven innings, striking out five and allowing two earned runs. He also went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run, three RBIs and a stolen base.

Sophomore outfielder Nick Miranda would start the game with a walk for the Fords. Senior first baseman Jake Chaplin followed with a single through the left side. Sophomore pitcher Justin Coulter added a single to center field to score Miranda for the first run of the game. Haverford added one more run in the first for a 2-0 lead.

Senior shortstop Dave Zubia and sophomore second baseman Daniel Seitzinger started the bottom of the first with back-to-back walks. O'Keefe followed with a single through the right side to load the bases. Sophomore catcher Matthew Guktes would put the first Greyhound run on the board with a single through the left side. Senior third baseman Gregg Steinman would tie the game with a single to right field, and freshman outfielder Matt Hanson put Moravian up 3-2 with a ground out RBI.
O'Keefe would pitch a scoreless top of the second off of two ground outs and a strikeout.

Zubia would start the bottom of the fourth with a lead-off single. Seitzinger would get hit by a pitch next to put two men on with zero outs. O'Keefe then cleared the bases with a home run to right field. Steinman then got a hit by a pitch, and Hanson followed with a RBI double down the left field line for a 7-2 lead.

Chaplin would start the top of the sixth with a walk, and then steal second base. Senior catcher Bobby Hubley followed with a double down the right field line to make the score 7-3, Moravian.

Rock and Steinman would draw back-to-back walks in the bottom of the sixth. Hanson followed with a single to the shortstop to load the bases with two outs. Freshman third baseman Ryan Luke then hit a single through the left side to score Rock to put Moravian up 8-3.

Zubia started the bottom of the seventh with a lead-off single and a stolen base. Freshman second baseman Colin Case followed with a walk. Senior catcher Blake Shortall then drove Zubia home on a ground out to the second baseman.

The Greyhounds would add one more run while going onto win 10-3.

Zubia went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs while Hanson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Gutkes had one hit, one RBI and one run while Steinman went 2-for-2 with a RBI and two runs. Luke went 1-for-3 with a RBI while Seitzinger went 1-for-2 with one run scored.

Coulter took the loss for the Fords after giving up seven runs in five innings. Hubley went 2-for-4 with a RBI while Coulter went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Chaplin went 1-for-2 while scoring two runs.

Moravian returns to action on Friday, April 6th as they travel to Landmark Conference foe the United States Merchant Marine Academy. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
