Greyhounds Defeat DeSales, 11-1, Under the Lights as Steinman Gets 100th Career Hit

LIMEPORT, Pa. – The Moravian College baseball team defeated non-conference opponent DeSales University, 11-1, Tuesday night at Limeport Stadium. Senior third baseman Gregg Steinman record his 100th career hit after going 1-for-5.

Both teams would be held scoreless in the first two innings. Moravian then struck in the third inning after freshman starting pitcher Jonathan Bujtas worked his way into trouble. He walked three batters to load the bases with one out. Senior first baseman Kevin O'Keefe's two RBI double would be the only hit of the inning. Sophomore second baseman Daniel Seitzinger then scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0 after the third.

The Greyhounds added an unearned run in the fourth while the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard as well with a run of their own to make the score 4-1 after four innings.

Moravian would put four more runs on the board in the fifth, all coming with two outs. It started with back-to-back walks from sophomore designated hitter Matthew Gutkes and freshman outfielder Chris Lansberry. Senior catcher Blake Shortall then drove a ball over the left field fence for a three-run home run. Sophomore outfielder Joseph Connell followed with a bunt single. He then stole second base where senior shortstop Dave Zubia singled to right field to score Connell to make the score 8-1.

Steinman would record his 100th career hit in the top of the sixth after hitting a double down the left field line.

Moravian added three more runs in the contest to go onto win 11-1.

Sophomore starting pitcher Robert Solano earned his second victory of the season after going 5.2 innings while striking out six and allowing one run. Zubia finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases while O'Keefe went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Lansberry score two runs while Shortall went 2-for-2 with four RBIs, three runs scored and a home run. Connell went 2-for-4 with a stolen base while Seitzinger had one RBI, one run and one hit.

Bujtas took the loss after giving up three earned runs, four runs total off of one hit in three innings. Senior first baseman Jason Hadinger went 1-for-4 with a RBI while classmate outfielder Ethan Moser went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Moravian returns to action on Wednesday, April 25th for a non-conference game versus Neumann University. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at the Camden Riversharks Stadium in Camden, N.J.
