Eight Baseball Players Named to All-Conference Team; Zubia Named Player of the Year, Close Earns Pitcher of the Year & Lansberry Named Rookie of the Year

MADISON, N.J. – Eight Moravian College baseball players were named to the Landmark All-Conference Team announced Tuesday. Senior shortstop Dave Zubia was named Player of the Year, classmate pitcher Brendan Close was named Pitcher of the Year while freshman Chris Lansberry earned Rookie of the Year honors.

Zubia, Close, senior catcher Blake Shortall and classmate designated hitter Austin Rock were named to the All-Conference First Team while Lansberry, senior pitcher Kyle Longernecker, classmate Gregg Steinman and sophomore second baseman Daniel Seitzinger were named to the All-Conference Second Team.

Zubia hit .432 from the plate with a season record of 67 hits. He lead the team with a .613 slugging percentage, .536 on-base percentage, 54 runs scored, 22 walks and 20 stolen bases to go with his 39 RBIs, 13 doubles, three triples and three home runs. Zubia was named to the All-Conference Second Team in 2010.

Close went 8-1 on the year with a 2.18 ERA in 66 innings. He had 53 strikeouts while allowing six walks and holding his opponents to a .247 batting average. Close also had eight complete games and one shutout. Close was named Pitcher of the Year in 2011 along with earned First Team honors in 2011, 2009 and Second Team honors in 2010

Shortall hit .350 (42-for-120) at the plate with 31 RBIs, 23 runs, five doubles, a triple and a home run. He also finished the season with a .996 fielding percentage with one error in 247 chances, which ranks as the highest fielding percentage in one season.

Rock batted .364 (56-for-154) at the plate with 38 RBIs, 37 runs scored, 14 walks and a team-best 15 doubles and four home runs. Rock was named to the All-Conference First Team in 2011

Lansberry went 8-1 this spring with a 2.94 ERA in 49 innings pitched. He had two complete games and 26 strikeouts while holding his opponents to a .258 batting average.

Longernecker finished the 2012 campaign with a 3-4 record and two saves. He had a 2.44 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 44.1 innings while holding his opponents to a .207 batting average. Longernecker was named to the All-Conference First Team in 2011.

Steinman batted .306 (45-for-147) at the plate with 33 RBIs, 19 runs scored, nine doubles, three home runs and a triple.

Seitzinger was the Greyhounds second leading hitting with a .366 (56-for-153) batting average. He had 30 runs, 28 RBIs, 15 stolen bases, seven doubles and a triple.

Moravian finished its 2012 season with 28-16 record after falling in the Landmark Conference Championship game. The Greyhounds were 15-5 at Gillispie Field and 14-4 in the Landmark Conference.
