Eight Baseball Players Rank in Latest NCAA Statistics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Eight Moravian College baseball players are ranked in the latest NCAA Division III baseball statistics released Tuesday.

Senior shortstop Dave Zubia is ranked four different categories. He is tied for ninth in the nation with 38 runs, and he's tied for 14th after getting hit by a pitch 12 times. He ranks 33rd with an average of 1.31 runs per game and 46th after getting hit by a pitch 0.41 times per game. On the season, Zubia is batting .385 (40-for-104) at the plate to go with his 12 stolen bases and 14 RBIs.

Senior pitcher Kyle Longernecker ranks tenth in the country with 0.56 walks allowed per nine innings. He's also tied for 34th with a 1.39 ERA. On the season, Longernecker is 3-3 with 21 strikeouts in 32.1 innings.

Senior pitcher Brendan Close is tied for 11th in the nation with five complete games. He's tied for 13th with 0.64 walks allowed per nine innings and tied for 41st with five victories. On the season, Close is 5-1 with a 2.79 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 42 innings.

Senior outfielder/designated hitter Austin Rock is tied for 18th in Division III with 13 doubles and he's tied for 34th with 32 RBIs. On the season, Rock is batting .346 (36-for-104) at the plate to go with his two home runs and 23 runs.

Senior first baseman Kevin O'Keefe and sophomore outfielder Joseph Connell are tied for 49th in the country with 31 runs scored. O'Keefe is batting .361 (39-for-108) and is four hits away from 200 career hits. Connell is hitting .316 (36-for-114) to go with his eight stolen bases.

Sophomore catcher/designated hitter Matthew Gutkes is tied for 23rd with four sacrifice flies. Gutkes is hitting .349 (15-for-43) with 15 RBIs.

Freshman pitcher Chris Lansberry is tied for 41st with five wins this season. Lansberry is 5-1 with a 2.86 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 28.1 innings.

As a team, Moravian is ranked in 11 categories and ranked in the top ten in four of those categories. The Greyhounds are tied for fifth in doubles (71), sixth in walks allowed per nine innings (2.27), eighth in hits (355), ninth in runs (241), 16th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.71), tied for 16th in stolen bases (66), 17th in batting average (.342), 18th in doubles per game (2.37), tied for 21st in hit by pitches (45) and 36th in stolen bases per game (2.20).

Moravian takes on Albright College in a non-conference game today, April 10th. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
