Moravian Falls to Muskingum in Final Game at Snowbird Classic

PUNTA GORDA, FL – The Moravian College baseball team fell to Muskingum University, 9-2, Friday afternoon in the team's final game at the Snowbird Classic in Florida. Senior first baseman Gregg Steinman hit his first homerun of the season in the loss while going 2-for-4.

Senior pitcher Kevin O'Keefe for Moravian would strike out the first batter of the game. He would the get the next two outs easily, off a fly out and a strike out.

Junior pitcher Logan Addison would start the game for the Muskies, but he would set down the Greyhounds with help from junior outfielder Darren Garrett, who make a diving catch in centerfield for the final out.

Senior outfielder Austin Rock would get the first hit for the Greyhounds with a double to deep left field. After advancing to third, Addison would strand him there by striking out the final batter of the inning.

Sophomore second baseman Will Simpson would get a single in the third for the Muskies. Garrett followed that up with a deep RBI triple to centerfield. Muskingum would net one more run in the inning to go up 2-0 after the top half of the third.

Steinman would get Moravian on the board in the fifth with a homerun to left field, his first of the season. That would make the score 2-1, Muskingum after five innings of play.

Sophomore third baseman Zach Siemon would draw a one walk in the sixth, and junior outfielder Nick Raymond followed up with a single just out of the reach of the shortstop. Sophomore first baseman Colten Maxwell would drive Seimon home with a deep double to centerfield. The Muskies would get one more run off O'Keefe before sophomore pitcher Chris Soltys would come in for relief. Muskingum would add three more runs in the inning to go up 7-1 after the top of the sixth.

Sophomore second baseman Daniel Seitzinger would lead off the bottom of the sixth with a triple to center field. Senior shortstop Dave Zubia then got hit by a pitch. Junior designated hitter Frank Trautz would ground into a double play that would score Seitzinger to make the score 7-2, Muskingum after six innings.

The Muskies would add two more runs in the later innings to go onto win 9-2.

O'Keefe picked up the loss while going 5.1 innings and striking out three. Rock went 1-for-3 while Pilchman went 1-for-4. Seitzinger went 1-for-4 with a run scored while O'Keefe went 1-for-2 at the plate.

Addison pitched a complete game while striking out one, and only allowing two runs. Maxwell went 4-for-4 on the day while Simpson went 3-for-3. Raymond went 1-for-4 with two runs scored while drawing one walk.

Moravian returns to action on Tuesday, March 13th as they take on rival Muhlenberg College in the Matte Award Match. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Gillespie Field.
