Six Greyhounds are Ranked in This Week's NCAA Statistics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Six Moravian College baseball players are ranked in the latest NCAA Division III statistics released Tuesday.

Senior pitcher Brendan Close is ranked first in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings at 0.31. He is also tied for 14th with three complete games and tied for 24th with four victories. Close is currently 4-0 with a 1.86 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 29 innings.

Senior designated hitter Austin Rock is tied for 17th with ten doubles, tied for 43rd with 0.53 doubles per game and tied for 47th with 23 RBIs. Rock is hitting .366 (26-for-71) this spring 15 runs scored and a home run.

Freshman outfielder Matt Hanson is tied for 73rd in DIII with a .449 batting average. He has 12 runs scored, nine RBIs, four stolen bases and four doubles.

Sophomore pitcher Thomas Mariano is tied for 24th with four wins and tied for 49th with two complete games. Mariano is 4-0 this season with a 1.87 ERA to go with his 20 strikeouts in 33.2 innings.

Senior Gregg Steinman is tied for 31st with five sacrifice bunts. Steinman is hitting .382 (26-for-68) to go with his two home runs, 19 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Senior shortstop Dave Zubia is tied for 33rd in the nation after getting hit by a pitch eight times this spring. Zubia is hitting .320 (24-for-75) to go with his 24 runs scored, 19 RBIs and six stolen bases.

As a team Moravian is ranked in nine different categories. They are tied for tenth with 51 doubles, 12th with 2.55 doubles per game,15th in walks allowed per nine (2.29), 19th in batting average (.350), 21st in hits (248), 22nd in runs (170), 27th in runs per game (8.5), tied for 35th in getting hit by pitches (30) and they rank 43rd with a .460 slugging percentage.

The Greyhounds return to action tomorrow, March 29th as they host Montclair State for a non-conference game. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
