Zubia Named ABCA/Rawlings 2nd Team All-American

Dave Zubia named ABCA All-American

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. --- Senior shortstop Dave Zubia (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic HS) of the Moravian College baseball team has been named to the 2012 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-America Second Team announced at the 2012 NCAA Division III World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin this weekend.

Zubia, who was also named to the D3baseball.com All-America Third Team this past week, has been collecting postseason honors since the Greyhounds closed out the 2012 season with a 28-16 overall record.  In addition to being named a D3baseball.com All-American, Zubia was honored as the 2012 Landmark Conference Player of the Year and on the All-Conference First Team.  He also earned D3baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region and ABCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team accolades.  Zubia was also named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in 2010.

This spring, Zubia hit .432 from the plate with a season school record of 67 hits. He lead the team with a .613 slugging percentage, .536 on-base percentage, 54 runs scored, 22 walks, 14 hit-by-pitch and 20 stolen bases to go with his 39 RBIs, 13 doubles, three triples and three home runs.

In his career, Zubia hit .385 (168-for-436) while starting 130 of the 134 games he played in.  Zubia added 125 runs scored, 25 doubles, five triples, four homers, 84 RBIs, 215 total bases, a .493 slugging percentage, 59 walks, 39 hit-by-pitch, a .493 on-base percentage, two sacrifice flies and 41 stolen bases.  He also had a .926 fielding percentage with 177 putouts and 365 assists in 585 chances in the field. 

Zubia holds seven school records including hits in a season, runs in a season (tied), on-base percentage in a season and assists in a season all set in 2012 and career records for batting average, on-base percentage and assists.  He is ranked in the top ten in 30 game, season and career lists in Moravian's record book at the end of his four-year career.

Zubia becomes Moravian's second ABCA/Rawlings All-American, joining classmate Brendan Close, who earned First Team honors in 2011.

The Greyhounds were 14-4 during the Landmark Conference regular season to finish in first place and host the conference tournament for the third straight season.
