Four Baseball Players Ranked in NCAA DIII Statistics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Moravian College baseball team is ranked in 13 different statistical categories, and seven players are ranked in various categories as well. Topping it all off, the Greyhounds are tied for sixth in NCAA Division III with 434 hits, and they're tied for sixth with 89 doubles as a team.

Senior shortstop Dave Zubia (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic HS) is ranked in eight different categories. He is tied for seventh with 49 runs scored, sixth with 1.40 runs per game, tied for 27nd with 13 hit by pitches, 30th in toughest to strikeout with 25.8 plate appearances per strikeout, tied for 42nd with 56 hits, 14th with a 0.535 on-base percentage, 47th in hit by pitch per game and is 37th in the nation with a .434 batting average.

Senior pitcher Brendan Close (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom HS) is tied for 13th in the country with six complete games, 18th with 0.92 walks allowed per nine innings. On the season, Close is 6-1 with 2.76 ERA and 44 strikeouts and five walks in 49 innings.

Senior pitcher Kyle Longernecker (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic HS) ranks sixth in the country with 0.47 walks allowed per nine innings and is tied for 53rd with a 1.88 ERA. On the season, Longernecker is 3-3 with 26 strikeouts and two walks in 38.1 innings.

Senior Blake Shortall (Kintnersville, Pa./Freedom HS) is tied for 35 for hit by pitch with 12 on the season. For the season, he has a batting average of .316 (31 for 98) along with four doubles and 21 RBIs.

In the other team categories, Moravian ranks 14th in runs (296), eighth in batting average (.346), ninth in doubles per game (2.47), 24th in stolen bases (82), tied for 22th in hit by pitches (56), 25th in walks allowed per nine innings (2.68), 25th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.52), 24th in scoring (8.2), 33rd in slugging percentage (.462), 32nd in stolen bases per game (2.28) and 38th in fielding percentage at .965.

The Greyhounds returns to action on Wednesday, April 25th for a non-conference game versus Neumann University. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Camden Riversharks Stadium in Camden, N.J.
