Women's Cross Country Picked to Repeat as Landmark Conference Champions

 

MADISON, N.J. – The Moravian College women's cross country team has been selected first in the 2012 Landmark Conference preseason poll selected by the conference's head coaches.

The defending champion Greyhounds were picked first with 49 points and two first-place votes while Juniata College was tabbed for second with 47 points and two first-place votes. Goucher College and Susquehanna University are tied for third with 39 points with the Gophers receiving two first-place votes, and the Crusaders earning one first-place vote. The University of Scranton is fifth with 35 points and one first-place vote while The Catholic University of America is picked sixth with 25 points. The United States Merchant Marine Academy is seventh with 13 points while Drew University is eighth with nine points.

Moravian looks to repeat as Landmark Conference champions under second-year head coach Jesse Baumann. The Greyhounds return one senior, two juniors and four sophomores to form their 2012 squad.

Sophomore Claire Del Casale (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) earned Landmark All-Conference First Team honors after a seventh place finish in the Landmark Conference Championships while classmate Emily Lambright (Chalfont, Pa./Christopher Dock) garnered Landmark All-Conference Second Team honors with an 11th place finish.

Moravian opens its season this Friday, August 31st as they head to the Lehigh University Opener. The race is scheduled for 5 p.m.
