Greyhounds Drop Doubleheader to Marymount at RussMatt Invitational

AUBURNDALE, Fla. --- The Moravian University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Marymount (Va.) University at the RussMatt Invitational Sunday at Lake Myrtle Park, falling 7-1 and 13-0.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of the opener. Senior shortstop Paul Croyle reached on an error to begin the inning, and he raced home on an RBI single off the bat of senior center fielder Matt Madigan
  • The Saints answered with two runs in the top of the third to move ahead, 2-1, and Marymount added two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and twice in the sixth to finish off the scoring
  • Freshman Antorius Cofield started on the mound for the Hounds, allowing two runs on six hits and a pair of walks to go with a strikeout in three innings while senior Rony Minier tossed three innings with five runs, three earned, on three hits and four walks to go with two strikeouts. Freshman Aidan Lane pitched the final inning with a walk and a strikeout

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The teams flipped home and away for the second game, and Marymount took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning
  • The Saints added four runs in each of the second, third and fifth innings
  • Graduate student Ethan Weber started on the hill for Moravian and allowed seven runs on four hits and four walks to go with a strikeout in two innings of action. Freshman Ryan Grill tossed a pair of innings with two runs on five hits and a walk with one strikeout while sophomore Stefano Garofalo gave up four runs on four hits and a walk with a strikeout in an inning of action. Freshman Nate McBride pitched the final inning with a hit

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had seven hits in the doubleheader from seven different players
  • Madigan had one hit and an RBI while Croyle contributed a hit and scored a run
  • Graduate student second baseman Chris Pow, graduate student first baseman Paul Hamilton, senior catcher Connor Wengryn, graduate student third baseman Justin Otero and freshman catcher Wyatt Harrar all had one hit
