Greyhounds Split Twinbill at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball team split a doubleheader at Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action Sunday, falling 11-2 in the opener and capturing the series finale 5-1.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The River Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning, and Susquehanna added three runs in the fourth for a 5-0 edge
  • The Greyhounds got onto the scoreboard with a run on the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-1. Graduate student second baseman Chris Pow singled with two outs and raced around the bases on an RBI double from senior first baseman Cole Cherkas
  • The River Hawks pushed a run across the plate in the bottom of the fifth
  • The Blue & Grey made it 6-2 in the top of the eighth as senior left fielder David Olsakowski walked and raced home on an error
  • Susquehanna answered with five runs in the bottom of the eighth
  • Sophomore Ross Huffman started on the mound for the Hounds and allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits and five walks to go with three strikeouts in five innings. Freshman Aidan Lane tossed two innings with four runs, three earned on four hits and a strikeout while freshman Nate McBride pitched an inning with a run on a hit and a walk to go with a strikeout 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • Moravian opened the scoring in the top of the sixth inning of the second contest with four runs. Senior center fielder Matt Madigan singled with two outs and scored on an RBI single from Cherkas. Senior shortstop Paul Croyle ripped a two-RBI single that brought in Cherkas and Pow, who had walked, while Croyle scored the final run of the frame on an RBI single from Olsakowski
  • The Greyhounds added a run in the top of the seventh for a 5-0 lead. Graduate student third baseman Jack Tone led off with a walk, and he raced home on an RBI sacrifice fly by junior right fielder Nick Henry
  • The River Hawks scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the ninth
  • Senior Aaron Flyte tossed a complete game for the Hounds, allowing a run on three hits and a walk to go with a career high nine strikeouts 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 14 hits in the two contests with Henry going 4-for-6 with an RBI
  • Cherkas contributed three hits, two RBIs, a run and a double while Pow added two hits and two runs
  • Madigan posted two hits to go with a run while Croyle had a hit and two RBIs
  • Olsakowski registered a hit, a run and an RBI while freshman catcher Wyatt Harrar () had one it
  • Tone scored a run for the Hounds
