BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball squad opened its Landmark Conference series with visiting Lycoming College with a 14-4, eight-inning victory Friday at Gillespie Field.

How It Happened

  • The Warriors jumped out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning
  • The Greyhounds got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the second frame to cut the deficit to 2-1 as senior shortstop Paul Croyle connected on a one-out, solo home run down the left field line. The homer was Croyle's first of the season and third of his career
  • The Blue & Grey took the lead for good with a three-run third inning to move ahead 4-2. Graduate student second baseman Jack Tone drew a walk before senior left fielder David Olsakowski singled through the left side. Senior center fielder Matt Madigan followed with an RBI single to chase Tone home while graduate student designated hitter Chris Pow drew a walk to load the bases. Croyle connected on an infield RBI single that brought in Olsakowski while junior right fielder Nick Henry ripped an RBI single to center to chase Madigan home
  • Moravian plated four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to stretch the advantage to 8-2. Tone and Olsakowski walked while Madigan had a single to load the bases. Pow was hit by a pitch to chase Tone home while senior first baseman Cole Cherkas hit an RBI single to score Olsaksowski. Madigan raced home on a double play as he scored the 100th run of his career, becoming the 16th Greyhound to score 100 runs in a career. Croyle drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI double as Cherkas scampered home
  • Lycoming put a run on the board in the top of the fifth to make it 8-3
  • The Hounds countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 10-3 edge. Pow and Cherkas both drew walks and scored on a two-RBI single from Henry
  • The Warriors scored their final run in the top of the seventh
  • Moravian push a pair of runs home in the bottom of the seventh. Freshman catcher Wyatt Harrar led off with a solo home run to left field, the first homer of his career. Tone followed with a single and eventually crossed the plate on an error on a ball hit by Pow
  • The Greyhounds finished off the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to get a ten-run lead to institute the Landmark Conference's ten-run rule after seven innings, new to conference play this spring. Harrar drew a two-out walk while Tone was hit by a pitch. Olsakowski drew another walk to load the bases while Madigan's bases loaded walk pushed Harrar home. Pow finished off the game with a bases loaded walk as Tone touched the plate for the ten-run advantage
