MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian University baseball squad nearly rallied from a five-run deficit and had the winning run on base in the top of the ninth inning before falling to host Drew University, 7-6, in Landmark Conference action Tuesday.

How It Happened

  • The Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning
  • The Greyhounds countered with a pair of runs in the top of the second to knot the score at 2-2. Senior first baseman Cole Cherkas led off with a double, and he scored on a throwing error while senior catcher Connor Wengryn connected on an RBI single to bring senior left fielder David Olsakowski across the plate after Olsakowski had walked
  • Drew retook the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third, and the Rangers added a run in the fourth frame for a 7-2 edge
  • The Blue & Grey pushed a pair of runs home in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-4. Senior shortstop Paul Croyle led off with a walk, and he moved to third on a double from Olsakowski. Wengryn then ripped a two-RBI double that brought Croyle and Olsakowski home
  • Moravian pulled within a run within a run in the top of the eighth. Senior center fielder Matt Madigan was hit by a pitch, stole second base and scored on an RBI single by Croyle. Later in the inning, Croyle raced home on an error on a ball hit by Olsakowski
