TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College Men's basketball squad had three players in double figures and six score at least seven points as the Greyhounds posted an 89-61 Landmark Conference win at Goucher College Monday evening.
The Hounds, who are now 11-6 overall and 4-2 in Landmark Conference play, were led by junior guard C.J. Barnes, who netted a game-high 20 points to go with five rebounds and two assists. Senior forward Oneil Holder contributed 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals as he increased his career totals to 1,431 points and 633 rebounds while junior guard Elijah Davis tossed in 11 points, two boards, two assists and two steals.
Senior guard Jimmy Murray and junior forward John Hargraves each scored nine points with Murray adding six rebounds and three assists while Hargraves grabbed five boards. Murray moved into sole possession of ninth in school history with 1,357 points. Sophomore guard Matt O'Connor contributed seven points, three rebounds and three assists while junior forward Addis Ralph had six points and four boards.
Senior guard Nicholas Casazza netted five points while sophomore guard Keith Otto and freshman forward Steve Breeman each connected on a three-pointer and had two rebounds. Junior guard Mike Martino added four assists, three boards and two points while senior guard Will Brazukas had four rebounds and two steals and sophomore guard Shon Wilson grabbed two boards.
Moravian connected on 36-of-81 field goal attempts, 11-of-28 three-pointers and 6-of-12 free throws in the game, and the Hounds also had a 49-34 advantage on the boards including 19-6 on the offensive glass. The Greyhounds' pressure defense forced the Gophers into 24 turnovers and limited Goucher to four assists while the Blue and Grey had 21 assists and just 16 turnovers.
The Hounds took the lead for good just 14 seconds into the contest when Hargraves scored on a lay-up. Barnes would hit a three-pointer and Davis followed with a jumper to push the edge to 7-0. Goucher would get within three points twice before Moravian pushed the lead into double digits, 20-9, on a lay-up by Casazza with 11:10 left in the first half. The Greyhounds would head to the locker room with a 52-33 lead after Holder beat the buzzer with a three-pointer.
Murray opened the scoring in the final 20 minutes with a jumper, and the Blue and Grey would keep the advantage over 15 points throughout the entire second half reaching a 30-point edge, 89-59, on a three-pointer by Otto, Moravian's final basket of the game with 2:02 on the clock.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return home to Johnston Hall on Wednesday, January 23 when the squad hosts Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
