Moravian Runs Past Marywood as Dzama Reaches 100 Career Points

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad raced out to a 5-0 first quarter lead enroute to a 14-4 non-conference victory over visiting Marywood University on John Makuvek Field Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened 

  • The Greyhounds scored five times in the first quarter to net the only goals the squad needed in the contest. Graduate student attack Connor James opened the scoring just 3:08 into action with his first goal of the season after missing five matches with an injury. Sophomore midfielder Steven Salica tallied a goal a little over three minutes later while sophomore midfielder Aaron Judge needed just 40 seconds to make it 3-0. Sophomore midfielder Nick Sullivan made it a 4-0 advantage with a goal at the 2:45 mark while sophomore defender Jason Levy scored his first career goal with 31 seconds left in the period as he fired a shot on a quick clearing attempt for the Blue & Grey
  • Marywood countered with the first two goals of the second quarter, and the Pacers kept Moravian off the scoreboard until the final minute of the period when Salica found the net to send the Hounds to the intermission with a 6-2 advantage
  • The third quarter would be all Moravian with the Greyhounds netting seven times to have a 13-2 edge after 45 minutes of action. Judge and sophomore attack Dan Kelly scored to start the period. Junior attack Trevor Dzama scooped up a ground ball behind the net and made a quick pass to a cutting freshman attack Vincent Devito for a goal at the 8:48 mark. The assist was Dzama's 100th career point as he became the tenth Greyhound in program history to reach 100 career points. Dzama netted the next goal while Judge, Sullivan and sophomore midfielder Austin Hittle scored in the quarter with Hittle also netting his first career goal
  • The Pacers scored twice in a 38-second span in the fourth quarter before Moravian freshman attack Ryan Kokoszka finished off the contest with the final goal

Inside the Numbers    

  • Moravian had 11 different players score a point with Judge netting a team-high three goals to go with three ground balls. Salica and Sullivan each netted two goals while James had a goal and two assists
  • Dzama finished with a goal and an assist, which moved him into a tie for second in school history with 64 career assists. Devito, Levy, Kokoszka, Hittle and Kelly all netted one goal with Levy and Hittle both scooping up two ground balls and Kelly causing a pair of turnovers
  • Junior attack Brennan Fluehr and sophomore midfielder Aden Moskovitz both contributed an assist with Moskovitz scooping up a team-high seven ground balls
  • Senior midfielder Shane Cassel recorded four ground balls and three caused turnovers while junior long stick midfielder Matt Baer had four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Kyle Weiss posted three ground balls and two caused turnovers while freshman defender James Panico and freshman midfielder Frank Britsch both had two ground balls
  • Sophomore Gannon Mesko was 14-for-21 in the face-off circle while sophomore midfielder Connor Estes winning his only face-off attempt
  • Sophomore goalie Thomas Lee posted 11 saves and a pair of ground balls in 45 minutes of action while junior goalie Avery Napolitano had five saves in the final 15 minutes
  • The Hounds finished the contest with a 39-34 edge in shots and a 40-26 advantage in ground balls while the Blue & Grey were 23-for-26 on clearing attempts
