Greyhounds Use Big Third Quarter to Run Away from Mount Saint Vincent

RIVERDALE, N.Y. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team scored 10 times in the third quarter to turn a close match into a 23-9 non-conference victory at the College of Mount Saint Vincent Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored the opening goal as graduate student attack Connor James found the net 3:45 into the contest, and goals from junior attack Trevor Dzam and sophomore midfielder Aaron Judge pushed the edge to 3-0 with just over seven minutes left in the period. Moravian netted three goals in a span of 1:14 as freshman attack Vincent Devito, James and Judge all found the net with James and Judge scoring man-up markers for a 6-0 edge. The Dolphin scored twice in the final 1:08 to cut the Blue & Grey lead to 6-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • Mount Saint Vincent netted the first tally of the second quarter to make it a 6-3 match before Dzama scored again for the Hounds. The Dolphins added two more goals to get within 7-5 until sophomore attack Dan Kelly tallied a man-up goal for Moravian to extend the edge to 8-5 with four and a half minutes left in the first half. Junior attack Brennan Fluehr, Judge and Devito all scored to send the Greyhounds to the intermission with an 11-5 advantage
  • Moravian put 10 goals in the net during the third quarter including the first nine of the quarter. James scored six of the markers including one man-up while Judge tallied two goals and sophomore midfielder Aden Moskowitz scored once. Freshman midfielder Mike Noonan finished the quarter with a goal to make it 21-6 for the Hounds after 45 minutes of play
  • The Blue & Grey tallied a pair of goals in the fourth as freshmen attack Caleb Woods-Bannan and attack Sam Dodge both scored

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 11 different players score a point with James tying his career high with eight goals, and he scooped up three ground balls. Judge finished with five goals, an assist and two ground balls while Dzama netted two goals and dished out a career high nine assists to tie his career best 11 points
  • Devito contributed two goals and an assist while Kelly and Moskovitz each had a goal and an assist with Kelly adding two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Fluehr, Noonan, Woods-Bannan and Dodge each added one goal while sophomore defender Jason Levy had an assist and two ground balls
  • Sophomore midfielder Gannon Mesko went 18-for-24 on faceoffs to go with 10 ground balls while junior midfielder Connor Estes was 7-for-12 on faceoffs with five ground balls
  • Sophomore midfielder Austin Hittle recorded four ground balls and four caused turnovers while freshman defender Mike Sickler contributed three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore defender Dan Alicea had three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while senior midfielder Shane Cassel and sophomore midfielder Kyle Weiss both had two ground balls
  • Sophomore goalie Thomas Lee made six saves in 42 minutes of action while sophomore goalie Sam Boyer had one save in the final 18 minutes of the contest
  • The Hounds had a 56-25 advantage in shots and a 50-22 edge in ground balls. Moravian was also 25-for-36 on faceoffs, 16-for-18 on clears and 4-for-5 in man-up situations
