Moravian Scores Twice in Fourth Quarter to Top Drew for First Landmark Conference Win of 2023

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad scored the only two goals of the fourth quarter to earn a 9-8 victory over host Drew University in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Rangers netted the first three goals of the contest before sophomore midfielder Steven Salica found the net for the Greyhounds. That would be all the scoring in the first 15 minutes of action as Drew took a 3-1 edge
  • The Blue & Grey quickly pulled within a goal to start the second period as graduate student attack Connor James put in a man-up goal 46 seconds into the quarter. Freshman attack Vincent Devito knotted the contest six minutes later with a goal. The Rangers countered with two goals to back in front 5-3. Moravian then netted two goals in the final 47 seconds of the half to send the squads to the intermission tied at 5-5. Freshman attack Ryan Kokoszka connected on a man-up goal while Devito beat the halftime clock with his second goal
  • Drew scored twice to start the second half to move ahead 7-5. The Hounds answered with goals from senior midfielder Jack Bakey and sophomore midfielder Nick Sullivan to make it a tie contest again at 7-7. The Rangers retook a one goal lead to hold an 8-7 edge after 45 minutes of play
  • Moravian scored the only two goals of the fourth quarter as sophomore midfielder Aaron Judge tied the contest with 13:32 remaining and sophomore midfielder Aden Moskovitz connected on the game-winning goal with 6:35 to play

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had nine different players score a point with Devito netting two goals. Junior attack Trevor Dzama led the squad with three points all on assists
  • James recorded a goal, an assist and two ground balls while Salica, Judge, Kokoszka, Sullivan, Judge, Bakey and Moskovitz each tallied one goal
  • Sophomore midfielder Gannon Mesko was 11-for-20 on face-offs to go with four ground balls while sophomore defender Jason Levy contributed four ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Sophomore goalie Thomas Lee made 18 saves and added a pair of ground balls
  • Senior midfielder Shane Cassel, sophomore midfielder Austin Hittle and sophomore midfielder Kyle Weiss all scooped up three ground balls
  • The Hounds were 2-for-5 with the extra-man, and the squad also went 24-for-28 on clearing attempts
