Greyhounds’ Rally Comes Up Short at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team looked to rally in the fourth quarter but came up short, falling to host Susquehanna University, 16-11, in Landmark Conference action Saturday. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored the opening goal as sophomore midfielder Austin Hittle found the net five and a half minutes into the contest for his second career goal. The River Hawks answered with three goals including one in the final minute of the quarter to lead 3-1 after 15 minutes of action
  • Moravian cut the deficit to one just 39 seconds into the second quarter as junior attack Trevor Dzama scored, and the Hounds knotted the match at 3-3 when freshman attack Vincent Devito netted a man-up goal just over a minute later. Susquehanna needed just seven seconds to retake the lead. The Blue & Grey countered again with another man-up goal, this one from graduate student attack Connor James. The River Hawks scored next and pushed the edge to 8-4 at halftime with four straight goals
  • Susquehanna netted the opening goal of the second half while Moravian countered with three goals, one each from sophomore midfielder Steven Salica, sophomore attack Dan Kelly and sophomore midfielder Aaron Judge to pull the Greyhounds with two goals at 9-7. The River Hawks answered back with three goals to end the period and lead 12-7 after 45 minutes of play
  • Judge began the fourth quarter with a man-up goal for the Blue & Grey, and Salica scored again to make it 12-9. The River Hawks tallied a goal before sophomore midfielder Aden Moskovitz found the net for the Hounds. Susquehanna pushed its edge back to four goals while Kelly made it a three-goal match again with 2:46 to go. The River Hawks finished the scoring with two goals in the final 1:52 of the contest 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had ten different players score a point with Kelly leading the squad with two goals and two assists to go with three ground balls
  • Judge contributed two goals and an assist while Salica scored twice and James had a goal and an assist
  • Dzama, Devito, Hittle and Moskovitz all had one goal with Moskovitz scooping up three ground balls and Hittle adding two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Junior attack Brennan Fluehr and freshman attack Ryan Kokoszka both had an assist
  • Sophomore goalie Thomas Lee recorded nine saves to go with seven ground balls
  • Sophomore Gannon Mesko was 13-for-30 on faceoffs, and he had five ground balls while freshman defender James Panico added three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
