BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior second baseman Eavan Matz and junior designated player Lizzie Mack of the Moravian College softball team have been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District IV NCAA Division III Softball First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

By making the All-District First Team, Matz and Mack are now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for Capital One Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced on Tuesday, May 20. Moravian has had 41 Capital One Academic All-Americans®.

To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. Beginning in 2011-12, the program is made up of four levels – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division (NAIA, Canadian colleges and junior colleges).  District IV in NCAA Division III is made up of schools from Pennsylvania.

Matz, who was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team on Thursday for the first time in her career this spring, is hitting a career-best .407 with 24 hits, 13 runs, five sacrifices, four doubles, the first home run of her life and 17 RBIs. Matz is a three-year starter for the Greyhounds at second base where she has 78 putouts and 55 assists so far this season as the squad prepares for the 2014 Landmark Conference Tournament. Matz is majoring in Management with a minor in industrial organizational psychology at Moravian.

Mack, who has seen action in the circle, at first base, in the outfield and as a designated player this spring, also made the Landmark All-Conference First Team for the first time in her career on Thursday after being on the Second Team a year ago. At the beginning of the season, Mack wasn't in the pitching rotation but she has returned to the circle with a 4-0 record, 15 strikeouts and a 2.97 ERA in 30.2 innings of action. At the plate, Mack is hitting .333 with 23 hits, 28 runs, six doubles, a triple, a home run, 10 walks and 19 RBIs. She also has 13 putouts and 10 assists in the field. Mack is majoring in biology with a focus on pre-dentistry at Moravian.

"Eavan and Lizzie have been good students during their careers," stated Head Coach John Byrne. "The both have some challenging majors, and Eavan has studied abroad for one semester. They were outstanding students out of high school and have continued that here. They have been able to combine a good academic and athletic career. They are a perfect example of how you can excel in both areas."
