Wright Returning in 2015-16 & Named D3hoops.com Honorable Mention Preseason All-American

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- Moravian College graduate student Alexis Wright has returned to use her fifth year of eligibility and has been named to the 2015-16 D3hoops.com Women's Preseason All-America Team as an Honorable Mention selection.

Wright graduated this past May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management but still had a year of eligibility remaining after receiving a medical redshirt for the 2013-14 season when she was injured in the eighth game of the year and was lost for the rest of the season. Wright returned to Moravian this fall to begin pursuing a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management and continue her basketball career.

"We are excited to have Alexis back for another year," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "Anytime you have the opportunity to coach a player of her caliber, you count yourself quite fortunate. Her maturity, leadership and athletic ability will be an asset to her teammates and coaches. I am personally happy for Alexis as a person that she is going to obtain her Master's degree. And of course to have her back as a force on the court helps to make the team stronger this year as well."

Last year, Wright named one of Moravian's Co-Senior Female Athletes of the Year, and she was also honored as the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Outstanding Athlete in basketball. Last winter as she helped lead the Greyhounds to a 15-12 record and a berth in the ECAC Division III South Semifinals, Wright was named the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year while earning spots on the Landmark All-Conference First Team and the D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team. Wright, who missed 20 games in her junior year due to an injury, was a Women's Basketball Coaches Association and Women's DIII News Honorable Mention All-American in 2013 as well as earning spots on the D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region, ECAC Division III South and Landmark All-Conference First Teams. Wright was the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year in 2012.

During the 2014-15 campaign, Wright averaged a double-double of 15.6 points and a school-record 12.1 rebounds per contest, and she had 18 double-doubles in 2014-15 for a total of 41 double-doubles in her career. Wright led the Greyhounds with 65 blocked shots and 59 steals to go with 41 assists this past season. Wright enters her fifth season ranked second in school history with 948 career rebounds and 204 career blocked shots, and she ranks eighth all-time in scoring with 1,341 points in 93 career games.
