Greyhounds Head to Pink Zone Clinic

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's basketball program participated in the 5th annual Pink Zone Clinic hosted by the Springfield Basketball Association at Jonathan Dayton High School in Springfield, New Jersey this past Sunday afternoon to kickoff Moravian's 2016 Play 4Kay week.

The Springfield Basketball Association raised an estimated $3,000 and will be donating the money to the Moravian women's basketball Play 4Kay initiative.

A group of parents formed a Springfield Pink Zone Committee to organize and run the event several years ago. Volunteers from the Springfield Basketball Association and the local community also worked to put the event together, and enlist a few former Dayton players and current coaches to help.

"Once again, the Springfield Basketball Association is proud to be the host of the Springfield Pink Zone," stated SBA Vice President and Co-Founder, Lawrence Dvorchik. "It's an exciting event that the community has embraced. We look forward to many years of hosting the Springfield Pink Zone!"

Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk, Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation Sara Steinman and players seniors Emily MacDonnell, Samantha Caligiuri, and Alesha Marcks, junior Camille McPherson and freshmen Kaeli White made the trip to Springfield, New Jersey to provide instruction on the court. Both Steinman and MacDonnell graduated from Jonathan Dayton.

"The Springfield Pink Zone Clinic is always a very special day for me. I love getting to teach the game of basketball to the youth in my hometown," commented Steinman. "It amazes me to see so many people come together for this event to raise money and create awareness for breast cancer research. Springfield Basketball Association and Jonathan Dayton High School has significantly impacted the Moravian Women's Basketball Pink Week in such a positive way. I cannot thank all those involved enough for all of their hard work and dedication to this event."

"The Moravian Women's basketball team is grateful for the collaboration with Springfield Basketball Association and Jonathan Dayton High School, said Coach Spirk. "Together we have joined resources to assist with the fight against cancer. It is refreshing to see the many people work together for a common cause. The clinic has become part of our program and we are grateful for the kindness of everyone involved. Sara Steinman and Lawrence Dvorchik have been integral in making this happen. A big thank you to them for coordinating and making it all happen."

Moravian's Play 4Kay game will be this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. versus Landmark Conference opponent Susquehanna University.
