Hounds Fall at Dickinson in Centennial Conference Action

CARLISLE, Pa. --- The Moravian University football team fell to host Dickinson College, 26-7, in Centennial Conference action Friday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds had the opening possession but would punt. The Red Devils answered with a 12-play, 75-yard drive to take a 7-0 lead with 6:59 to play in the first quarter
  • Moravian picked up a first down on the next drive before an interception gave the ball back to Dickinson, who would punt for the first time in the contest
  • The Hounds drove into the red zone early in the second quarter; however, turned the ball over on downs at the five-yard line
  • The Blue & Grey's defense held and forced a punt by Dickinson, but a fumble by Moravian gave the Red Devils the ball right back. Dickinson capitalized with a 37-yard field goal to make it a 10-0 game with 6:16 left in the first half
  • The Greyhounds closed the gap to 10-7 on a 19-yard touchdown run from junior running back Nate Boyle to finish off a 13-play, 66-yard drive. Sophomore Sam Bingaman split the uprights with the extra-point
  • After making a stop on the first possession of the second half, Moravian would be forced to punt, which was blocked. The Red Devils needed just two plays to extend their advantage to 17-7 with 9:14 remaining in the third quarter
  • Dickinson pushed its edge to 23-7 with 3:53 left in the third quarter on another touchdown pass
  • Moravian muffed another punt attempt to set up the Red Devils with a short field once again at the end of the third quarter
  • On the opening play of the fourth quarter, junior defensive back Zach Scillia forced a fumble that was recorded by sophomore defensive lineman Jeremy McGuigan to give the Hounds the ball near midfield. However, Moravian was unable to move the ball, turning it over on downs
  • The Red Devils capitalized with another field goal to push the lead to 26-7 with 8:53 left in the contest
  • Neither team was able to score again

Inside the Numbers

  • The Greyhounds picked up 217 yards on 64 plays while controlling the clock for 30:14 of the contest
  • Boyle finished with 95 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries as he moved into 21st in program history with 1,232 yards
  • Sophomore quarterback Carter Hallgren completed 14-of-26 passes for 110 yards with an interception, and he ran for nine yards on two rushing attempts. Freshman Sean Murphy saw his first action of the season and completed 2-of-4 passes for 13 yards
  • Junior wide receiver Brad Bryan caught six passes for 69 yards while sophomore wide receiver Jordan Lewis added three catches for 24 yards and junior wide receiver Tim Garlick had three receptions for five yards and one rushing attempt for seven yards. Sophomore wide receiver Brandon Grace caught two passes for 18 yards while sophomore wide receiver Will Castel had two catches for seven yards
  • Castel also returned one punt while graduate student defensive back Jalen Richardson had a pair of kickoff returns for 59 yards
  • Senior Trevor Yacuboski punted four times with a long of 48 yards and two inside the 20-yard line, and he kicked off once for 40 yards while Bingaman kicked off once for 41 yards
  • Junior linebacker Chris Ortalano led the Greyhounds with nine tackles while sophomore defensive back Chad Newhard and junior linebacker Nick Levinski both made eight stops with Newhard adding two tackles for loss and a pass break-up and Levinski making one tackle for loss
  • Graduate student defensive back Romello Walters and senior defensive lineman Jack Gawlik both recorded six tackles with Gawlik adding two tackles for loss
  • Freshman linebacker Clay Basile and sophomore defensive back Isaiah Johnson each had four tackles with one for loss while Scillia had three tackles with one for loss and a sack. Senior defensive lineman Javi Espinal-Katz also had a sack for the Hounds
