BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University football squad fell to host Franklin & Marshall College, 56-7, in the Greyhounds' final road game as a member of the Centennial Conference Saturday afternoon. 

How It Happened

  • The Diplomats received the opening kickoff and needed just three plays to cover the 75 yards to the end zone to take a 7-0 lead
  • The Greyhounds' first possession ended in a punt after three plays
  • F&M scored on its next drive on a one-yard touchdown run to take a 14-0 edge with 7:42 to play in the first quarter
  • Moravian punted again on the next possession with sophomore Sam Bingaman connecting on a 72-yard punt that rolled into the endzone for a touchback. Bingaman's punt was a career long and the second longest in school history
  • The Diplomats needed seven plays to cover the 80 yards to the end zone and extend the advantage to 21-0 with 3:07 to go in the opening quarter
  • The Hounds were forced to punt again as Bingaman connected for a school-record and new career long 75-yard punt that rolled into the end zone for another touchback
  • F&M punted for the first time on its next possession
  • After a punt from the Blue & Grey, the Diplomats scored to push the lead to 28-0 with 7:22 left in the second quarter
  • Moravian's next drive would end with an interception that F&M turned into another touchdown to take a 35-0 advantage with 3:58 to play before the intermission
  • The Greyhounds defense would get the ball back after a punt as freshman defensive back Matt Capobianco forced a fumble after a completed pass that graduate student Romello Waltersrecovered
  • Moravian was unable to capitalize, and the teams headed to the locker room with the Diplomats leading 35-0
  • The Greyhounds opened the second half with possession but would punt. The remainder of the third quarter would have each drive end on a punt
  • The Diplomats scored on the first play of the fourth quarter to stretch the lead to 42-0
  • Moravian muffed the ensuing kickoff and F&M turned the miscue into another touchdown with 12:45 to play
  • The Greyhounds broke up the shutout with 1:43 to play as senior quarterback Nick Reardon connected on a 16-yard touchdown pass to freshman wide receiver Landon Rutley to cap a 12-play, 61-yard drive. Bingaman split the uprights with the extra-point to set the score at 49-7
  • F&M returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown to set the final score at 56-7 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 122 yards on 50 plays on the afternoon
  • Junior quarterback Brad Bryan completed 10-of-23 passes for 43 yards while Reardon was 7-for-8 for 57 yards and a touchdown and freshman Sean Murphy completed 1-of-2 passes for 10 yards
  • Rutley caught the first five passes of his career for 49 yards and a touchdown while sophomore wide receiver Bryan Monge had four receptions for 23 yards. Junior wideout Tim Garlick had two catches or 12 yards while sophomore wide receiver Will Castel caught a pair of passes for four yards and returned one punt for eight yards
  • Freshman running back Camron Tinajero led the rushing attack with 14 yards on two rushing attempts to go along with four kickoff returns for 47 yards while senior running back Angelo Macera had 10 yards on seven carries to go with one reception for 10 yards
  • Bingaman punted 10 times for a school record 448 yards, and he had three punts over 50 yards including his two 70-plus yard punts and four inside the 20-yard line with a pair of touchbacks. Bingaman also kicked off three times for an average of 67.0 yards with one touchback to go with his extra-point
  • Walters led the Moravian defense with 11 tackles to go with a pair of pass break-ups and a fumble recovery while junior linebacker Nick Levinski made eight tackles with one for loss
  • Freshman linebacker Clay Basile and freshman defensive lineman Drew Bailey both made seven stops with Bailey adding a tackle for loss while junior linebacker Chris Ortalano and sophomore defensive back Isaiah Johnson each contributed six tackles
  • Graduate student defensive back Jalen Richardson, junior linebacker Colin Conway, senior defensive lineman Jack Gawlik, sophomore linebacker Jeremiah Espinosa and senior defensive lineman Javi Espinal-Katz all made four tackles with Espinal-Katz recording a sack
  • Moravian is leaving the Centennial Conference at the end of the season with Moravian's main affiliation, the Landmark Conference, beginning football in 2023
