Joint & Karnopp Compete on Opening Day of NCAA Meet

DELAWARE, Ohio --- Moravian College senior Kristopher Joint and sophomore Ryan Karnopp competed on the opening day of the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships being hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Shelby Stadium Thursday.

Joint competed in the long jump and placed 16th with a mark of 6.79 meters (22 feet, 3.5 inches) on his third and final attempt of the preliminaries. Joint opened the competition with a jump of 6.24 meters and followed with a mark of 6.59 meters. Joint, who is a three-time All-American at the NCAA Indoor Championships, had entered the championships with the second-best jump in the nation this spring last week while winning the ECAC Championship.

Karnopp participated in the pole vault and finished in a tie for 13th at a height of 4.75 meters (15 feet, seven inches). Karnopp cleared the opening height of 4.60 meters (15 feet, one inch) before needing two attempts at 4.75 meters. He had three chances at the next bar at 4.85 meters but came up short on all three. Karnopp, who was an All-American at the NCAA Indoor Championships back in March, had entered the meet in a tie for 15th.

Moravian will have two competitors on Saturday, May 24, the final day of the championships as Joint is set to compete in the triple jump at 12:00 p.m. and senior Timothy Lorah in the javelin at 3:00 p.m. Joint has the top distance in the nation while Lorah enters the meet with the second-best mark in the javelin.
