Women's Soccer Lights Up Scoreboard in 4-1 Victory

Senior defender Diana Feldmann scored her first goal in two years and started a three-goal first half for the Moravian College women's soccer team as the Greyhounds posted a 4-1 Landmark Conference win over visiting Juniata College on the HUB Quad Saturday.

Moravian snapped an eight-match winless streak (0-7-1) with the victory. Feldmann opened the scoring in the 15th minute when she took a turnover and blasted a low shot from the right side 20 yards from the goal. Feldmann's last goal was an overtime game-winning goal versus Muhlenberg College on October 7, 2009, and Saturday's goal was the fourth of her career.

The Greyhounds would need just over two minutes to extend their lead to 2-0. Freshman forward/midfielder Kayla Pagnani had a shot blocked but the ball bounced right to senior midfielder Tara Alberse, who took a low shot into the goal for her first goal of the season. Alberse's last goal was on October 3, 2009 in a win over Juniata and today's tally was the third of her career.

Moravian pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 38th minute when senior forward Arielle Caldas, pictured at left, took a pass from senior midfielder Jenna Stickle and fired a low shot into the left side of the net. For Caldas, it was her second goal of the season. She has 28 career goals, fourth in school history, and Caldas moved into a tie for fourth in career scoring with Becky Matijasich '00 with 63 career points.

The Eagles would get onto the scoreboard in the 55th minute when sophomore forward Paula Pryor took a through ball from sophomore midfielder Jennifer Graves down the far sideline and put the ball in the left side of the net for her first goal of the season.

Two minutes later, Caldas nearly scored again when she was sent in on a breakaway by freshman forward/midfielder Quanie Lightner but Juniata senior goalie Elaina Robins made the save. Proyer would get in on another breakaway in the 58th minute but Greyhounds' sophomore goalie Genevieve Chaleff came out to block the chance.

Moravian finished off the scoring in the 64th minute when Stickle scored on a penalty kick after a Juniata hand ball in the box. For Stickle, it was her second goal of the season and the third of her career.

Feldmann would make one more play in the game in the 76th minute. Juniata sophomore defender Jenna Rodrigue got off a shot that went past Chaleff but Feldmann came into the right side of the goal area and headed the ball away before it entered the goal.

The Greyhounds finished the game with a 20-11 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Chaleff had four saves, and Moravian had one team save in the match while Robins made nine stops for the Eagles.

Moravian will return to action on Tuesday, October 11 in a non-conference match at Haverford College beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Greyhounds are back on the HUB Quad on Thursday, October 13 versus rival Muhlenberg in a 4:00 p.m. match.
