Women's Soccer Falls in Double Overtime

The Moravian College women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker in overtime to York (Pa.) College Wednesday afternoon, 1-0 (2OT). Junior goalkeeper Tori Korona made five saves in 105:11 minutes of work.

Senior midfielder Jenna Stickle had two opportunities to put the Greyhounds up earlier in the 12th minute she missed just high. Then in the 18th minute she had a breakaway, but sophomore goalie Melanie Glessner made the save to keep the score at zero. The Spartans would try to get on the board in the 28th minutes, but was denied by Korona who made a brilliant save. Senior midfielder Tara Alberse was able to get two more shots off at the end of the half, but one was saved and one went high.

Junior defender Eileen Black for Moravian would get a chance to break the tie in the 49th minute with a header, but Glessner would make the save. York would have a few opportunities down the stretch, but Korona would keep the game knotted at zero.

The Greyhounds would start the first overtime racing when freshman midfielder Kristen Schall would sprint up the field, but shoot just high. Moravian would get four shots off in the first overtime, but to no avail.

York's sophomore forward Jordan Snook would cross a pass to the center of the box, and senior midfielder Stephanie Rice would push it in the back of the net for the game-winner in the 105th minute.

Glessner would make eight saves for the Spartans in the win.

The Greyhounds outshot York 19-18, and both teams finished with eight corner kicks.

Moravian hits the road to Landmark Conference rival Susquehanna University Saturday, October 29th for their final regular season contest. The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. If the Greyhounds win, they will secure their fifth straight postseason berth
