Women's Soccer Erases Two-Goal Deficit to Defeat Rival Muhlenberg

The Moravian College women's soccer team defeated rival Muhlenberg College Wednesday afternoon, 3-2 at the HUB Quad. Senior forward Arielle Caldas tallied one goal and one assist, moving her into sole possession of fourth place in career points with 66.

Moravian put the pressure on Muhlenberg early with a shot and save from senior forward Caldas, which gave the Greyhounds a corner. Senior midfielder Jenna Stickle took the corner and hit sophomore forward Taylor DiSora, who headed the shot just wide of the goal.

The Mules got on the board first with a free kick goal that went just under crossbar from sophomore midfielder Stephanie Tramutola. They would add another goal two minutes later from freshman midfielder Colleen Touhey, who put it in the upper right corner of the goal. The Greyhounds would fight back and cut the deficit in half with a goal from Caldas, her third of the season, who hit a low inside shot off of a cross from DiSora. Muhlenberg would take a 2-1 lead into the half.

The Greyhounds would open up the second half with a game-tying goal right inside the right post by junior defender Eileen Black, her third of the year, with Caldas assisting on the play. Moravian would keep the pressure on the rest of the half until senior midfielder Tara Alberse, pictured, would put a perfect shot in the top left corner off of a free kick for the go-ahead goal and her second goal of the season..

Sophomore goalkeeper Genevieve Chaleff had two saves in 24 minutes before leaving with an injury. Junior goalkeeper Tori Korona earned the win for Moravian while making one save in 66 minutes of work.

Senior goalie for the Mules Michele Toher made six saves in 90 minutes of work.

Moravian outshot Muhlenberg 22-15 and held the corner kick advantage, 3-0.

The Greyhounds return to action Wednesday, October 19 when they take on conference foe The University of Scranton.

Moravian returns home next Saturday, October 22 when they host conference rival Goucher College. This game is senior day and the Breast Cancer Awareness game. The match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the HUB Quad.
