Greyhounds Lead Early Before Dropping Non-Conference Contest at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball squad took an early lead by winning the opening set for dropping a 3-1 non-conference decision at DeSales University Wednesday evening.

The Hounds led the entire first set including winning eight of the final nine points to take the opening set, 25-17. The Bulldogs responded and captured the next two sets 25-13 and 25-18. The Blue and Grey jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the fourth set, which would go back-and-forth early before DeSales pulled away for a 25-18 win.

Senior middle blocker Erin Tiger ed the Greyhounds with 13 kills while senior outside hitter Brooke Kusmider had seven kills, 14 digs and a pair of assists. Freshman middle blocker Renee Mapa added six kills and three blocks while freshman opposite hitter Sela Herber made five kills.

Junior setter Victoria Kauffman paced the Hounds with 31 assists with four digs and two kills while sophomore defensive specialist Jasmine Pavlinsky had 11 digs, three assists and a pair of service aces and junior defensive specialist Alexis Szaro had 10 digs and three service aces. Freshman outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach contributed eight digs, three assists, three kills and a pair of service aces while freshman outside hitter Katie Hudson had two kills, two digs and two blocks.

Moravian is scheduled to compete in the Misericordia University Cougar Clash this weekend with two matches on Friday, September 7 as the Hounds play Pitt-Bradford at 4:00 p.m. and the College of St. Elizabeth (N.J.) at 6:00 p.m.
