GALLOWAY, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split two matches at the Osprey Invitational hosted by Stockton University, falling to Springfield (Mass.) College, 3-1, and defeating FDU-Florham, 3-1, Saturday afternoon.
Senior middle blocker Erin Tiger earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, her fourth honor of the season, and she had six kills versus Springfield and another 19 against FDU-Florham to become the 12th volleyball player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills, now with 1,003.
In the opening match versus Springfield, the Greyhounds dropped the first set 25-11, before evening the score with a 25-21 victory in the second set. However, Springfield captured the next two sets 25-15, 25-13 to capture the overall match. Senior outside hitter Brooke Kusmider and freshman middle hitter Renee Mapa each had nine kills to lead the Hounds with Kusmider adding nine digs. Tiger had three blocks and three digs to go with her six kills while freshman right side hitter Sela Herber had three kills and four digs.
Junior setter Victoria Kauffman paced the Moravian offense with 27 assists to go with 12 digs and a pair of kills while junior defensive specialist Alexis Szaro had 11 digs. Freshman outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach added 10 digs while sophomore defensive specialist Jasmine Pavlinsky had five digs and two service aces and freshman libero Ally Locy added four digs and a pair of service aces.
In the second match with FDU-Florham, all four sets were decided by four points or less with the Devils taking the opening set 25-21. Moravian would win the next three by scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 27-25 to capture the match. Tiger led the way with her 19 kills to go with five blocks, three service aces and two digs while freshman outside hitter Katie Hudson added 15 kills and seven digs. Dreisbach recorded 13 kills, 17 digs and a pair of service aces while Mapa had nine kills and three blocks.
Kauffman had 56 assists to go with 15 digs and a pair of blocks while Pavlinsky had a team-high 29 digs with four assists. Szaro added 11 digs while Herber had five kills, four digs and two service aces in the victory.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 29 when the squad begins the 2018 Landmark Conference season with matches versus The Catholic University of America at 1:30 p.m. and nationally-ranked Juniata College at 4:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
