Negron Selected as Centennial Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College junior running back Chris Negron has been named the Centennial Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Greyhounds' 42-10 victory over Juniata College on Saturday.

Negron rushed for 226 yards on just 18 carries, and he added a touchdown on the ground and another through the air as he caught four passes for 29 yards as the Greyhounds won their sixth straight game and improved to 8-1 for just the second time in school history. Negron's 226 yards is the second-best single game of his career, and his 12.5 yards per carry is the third-highest in Moravian history. Negron had a the two longest runs of his career with an 87 yard run in the first quarter and a 69-yard run in the second quarter. He scored on a seven yard reception in the first quarter of the win and on a one-yard run in the third quarter for the Hounds' final points of the game.

On just his second carry of the game, Negron became just the second player in school history to surpass 3,000 career yards, and he now has 3,219 yards on 618 carries, third in the record books. Negron has run for 1,309 yards on 243 attempts this fall, ranking second and third for a single season. He has added 14 rushing touchdowns this season and a total of 90 points, both second in the Hounds' record books. Negron is up to 33 career touchdowns and 198 points as he is second all-time in touchdowns and third in scoring.

"Chris had a good day on Saturday but it was a little different since it is usually Eli (Redmond) that takes off on the runs of more than 40 yards," stated Head Coach Jeff Pukszyn. "Chris work's just as hard in practice and in the weight room as he does on Saturdays, and we're really seeing that work ethic come through on game day. The offensive line also did a great job of sealing their blocks against Juniata so Chris was able to spring some really long runs."

Moravian will close out the 2015 regular season on Saturday, November 14 when the Greyhounds travel to Allentown for a Centennial Conference game at rival Muhlenberg College. Kickoff for the annual Matte Award game is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Frank Marino Field at Scotty Wood Stadium.
