Hounds' Rally Falls Short in Overtime Versus Goucher on Senior Day

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit to force overtime before falling to visiting Goucher College, 3-2 in the first extra session Sunday afternoon on John Makuvek Field in the 2018 Landmark Conference season finale for both schools and Senior Day for the Greyhounds.

The Gophers scored the lone goal of the opening half in the 25th minute to head to the intermission with a 1-0 lead. Goucher added a tally in the 43rd minute to extend its advantage to 2-0.

The Hounds would get onto the scoreboard in the 55th minute when freshman forward Ava Edwards one-timed a pass from sophomore midfielder Erica Heaney into the cage for her first collegiate goal. Heaney would find a loose ball and put it into the net for her second goal of the season and the equalizer in the match in the 58th minute.

Neither team would score in regulation, forcing the teams into the first 10-minute overtime. Goucher would draw three penalty corners in the overtime, scoring on a loose ball after the third one 7:31 into the session.

Moravian sophomore goalie Ashley Kunsman completed the match with 12 saves and she had 130 stops for the season. Kunsman has 297 saves after two years and is fifth sin school history.

"We will truly miss the leadership and positivity of our two seniors," stated Head Coach Kristen Gillis on her seniors defender Emily Duddy and midfielder Elizabeth Hrehovcik. "Beth and Emily have added a lot to the transition of the team. We wish them the best in their next steps."

Hrehovcik finished her career with 13 goals and an assist for the Greyhounds while Duddy had three defensive saves.
