Men's Lacrosse Drops Hard-Fought Landmark Conference Opener to Susquehanna

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team saw a three-goal halftime lead slip away as the Greyhounds dropped their 2018 Landmark Conference season opener to visiting Susquehanna University, 8-6, under the lights on John Makuvek Field Friday evening.

The Hounds, now 4-4 overall and 0-1 in Landmark Conference play, had three players score with junior midfielder Austin Adams netting a hat trick. Junior attack James Carroll added two goals to become the seventh player in program history to reach 100 career points while junior midfielder Alec Oriolo had one tally.

Junior goalie Kurt Dick had eight saves and three ground balls in the contest while sophomore long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke had six ground balls. Carroll and sophomore attack Cade Siddron each had a pair of ground balls while junior midfielder Rick Guerra won 9-of-16 face-offs.

The River Hawks scored the first three goals of the match before Adams got the Blue and Grey on the scoreboard with 2:01 left in the first quarter. Adams added the first two goals of the second period for a natural hat trick and to tie the match at 3-3 with 6:14 before the intermission. Carroll netted two goals and Oriolo found the net with just nine second left in the second quarter as Moravian headed to halftime with a 6-3 lead after holding the River Hawks without a goal over the final 22 minutes of the first half.

However, Susquehanna would score five times in the second half, three in the third quarter and two in the fourth quarter for the come-from-behind victory over Moravian.

The Hounds are to return to action on Saturday, April 7 in a Landmark Conference match at The University of Scranton beginning at 1:00 p.m.
